Afterpay launches ‘top-up’ program to promote sustainable shopping

THE WHAT? Buy now, pay later provider Afterpay has launched a top-up program that allows customers to donate $1 at check out to charitable causes in a bid to promote sustainable shopping. 

THE DETAILS The donation will go to Magpies & Peacock, a non-profit design house that is disrupting the cycle of waste in the fashion industry, and Surfrider, a non-profit environmental organization focused on protecting clean water and healthy beaches. 

Created to help consumers ‘build a more mindful and eco-friendly wardrobe and give back to the environment,’ Afterpay will match shopper’s donations. 

In another sustainable move, as of mid-April Afterpay will integrate a live shopping technology platform in partnership with MagicLinks, a B-Corp Certified social commerce company, to inspire viewers to shop more consciously.

As part of the live shopping experience, consumers will be able to watch influencers, shop live for eco-friendly brands and pay in instalments. 

THE WHY? Discussing the company’s new environmentally-focused developments, Melissa Davis, Head of North America at Afterpay said, “We are thrilled to offer our customers the option to shop from fashion-forward brands in a responsible and sustainable way, while also giving back to these incredibly important organizations.
