Amazon challenges Amway, Modicare and Oriflame ruling in Supreme Court

Amazon has taken a battle against direct sales companies Oriflame, Modicare and Amway to India’s supreme court after the Delhi High Court ruled that the e-commerce giant couldn’t sell products from this category of companies without their consent, according to a report published by Medianama, quoting the Economic Times.

The direct sellers accused a number of high-profile online shopping platforms, such as Flipkart, Snapdeal and Amazon of undercutting their prices, resulting in financial loss. The Delhi High Court ruled in July this year that e-commerce platforms are not ‘passive, non-interfering platforms’ and have a distinct advantage of convenience, so interim relief should be granted.

Amazon is challenging the decision because it believes that the restriction could set a precedent for further product categories.
