THE WHAT? Amazon has announced that its popular discounting event, Prime Day is to be postponed until October at the earliest in the US, according to a report published by CNBC.
THE DETAILS The e-commerce behemoth has yet to confirm a date for the rescheduled event but is said to have told third-party sellers to pencil in the week commencing October 5.
“Over the last five years, Prime Day has become a special celebration and time for Prime members to shop incredible deals for themselves and for friends and family – and it’s something we look forward to every year,” an Amazon spokesperson told CNBC. “This year we’ll be holding Prime Day later than usual, while ensuring the safety of our employees and supporting our customers and selling partners.
THE WHY? With logistics operations and supply chains disrupted by COVID-19 restrictions and unprecedented demand during lockdowns, the delay was widely anticipated.
