Amorepacific has granted Parfums Christian Dior permission to adopt its patented ‘cushion’ technology, which has proved hugely popular as an application concept in the make-up compact market.
The two companies signed a memorandum of understanding at Amorepacific’s headquarters in Seoul, signifying the first stage of strategic partnership that will enable Dior to market Amorepacific’s technologies to Western consumers, extending the global consumer base for technologies such as the ‘cushion’.
The ‘cushion’ refers to a make-up compact built with a specially-designed sponge containing liquid formula comprised of foundation, sun protection and various skincare ingredients.
Since the launch of the ‘IOPE AirCushion®’ in 2008, Amorepacific Group has introduced ‘cushion’ products under 13 different in-house brands.
The Korean cosmetics company has gone to great lengths to protect the technology. It has submitted 143 patent applications and currently holds 14 patents registered in both South Korea and abroad.
Sang-Bae Shim, President of AMOREPACIFIC Corporation, noted, “This agreement holds great significance in that our ‘Cushion’ technology is appreciated by one of the world’s most respected luxury brand companies and a powerhouse in the global beauty industry.”
