An ‘Amazon for vegans’: Isreali tech entrepreneurs seek funding for vegan marketplace

Israeli tech entrepreneurs, Alon Hochberg and Amir Lavi have launched an online marketplace dedicated entirely to vegan products. Billion vegans has raised pre-seed private of investment of US$300,000 and is hoping to pull in more via an equity crowd-funding round.

“I bought a pair of vegan shoes on Amazon and when they arrived, I found out the glue was made of pigs’ bones,” said Hochberg. “That was the day I decided to start Billion Vegans. All products on our site are vetted by our team to make sure they are actually vegan.

The platform lists some 4,500 products from 200 brands, including plant-based and cruelty free beauty brands such as EcoTools,  Smaxwax and Andalou Naturals.

The site currently ships to the US only but expansion to Canada and beyond is planned for 2019.
