An unprecedented success: Sephora capitalizes on Virtual Artist App’s popularity with new features

Sephora has announced the launch of several new features on its Virtual Artist App. The application will now allow users to try false lashes on in virtual reality as well as coach users in application techniques in step-by-step virtual tutorials.

“Sephora Virtual Artist has been an unprecedented success, with Sephora clients trying on over 70 million lip shades digitally since launching earlier this year,” said Bridget Dolan, VP of Innovation. “Live Tutorials are a revolutionary new way to learn new application techniques and trends, on your own face, one step at a time. The ability to leverage this exclusive augmented reality technology to mirror our Sephora store makeover experience on your own device is a game changer for our users.”

The App uses a smartphone camera to map the user’s facial features, using technology developed by the LVMH-owned retailer’s partner ModiFace. A state-of-the-art live view that moves like a mirror, then allows clients to try on lip colors and false lashes, or learn tricks of the trade on their ‘own’ face.

Products used during the tutorials or trials can be saved to each client’s My Favorites list, or added to basket for purchase.
