Direct sales giant Avon has launched its 15th annual Avon 39 Walk to End Breast Cancer, which will see participants from across North America walk 39.3 miles over two days in a bid to raise money for cancer awareness.
Launching this weekend in Houston, Texas, events will take place in Washington, D.C. on May 6-7, Chicago on June 3-4, Boston June 24-25, San Francisco July 8-9, Santa Barbara September 9-10 and New York October 14-15.
Participants will walk the two day 39.3 mile challenge to raise a minimum of $1800 to accelerate breast cancer research, with the 2016 event attracting some 13,000 participants who, together, raised $30 million.
Scott White, Chief Executive Officer, New Avon LLC, said, “As the company for women, we are proud of our strong purpose-driven mission to improve the lives of women – and this includes our long-term commitment to the fight against breast cancer. I’ve had the great privilege of participating in the AVON 39 Walk and being a part of the powerful community of walkers. I’m inspired by the individuals whose lives have been touched by breast cancer, and who have their own personal reason for wanting to take part and make a difference.”
With nearly $620,000,000 having been raised since the event’s launch in 2003, funds raised are distributed by the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade to ‘local, regional and national breast cancer organizations with the goal of improving breast cancer outcomes and reducing disparities in survival rates,’ according to the company.
