BASF, Henkel, Roche fall victim to cyberattack

BASF, Henkel and Roche are amongst many German bluechip companies that have fallen prey to a cyber attack which was reportedly undertaken by a group most likely working for the Chinese government.

The attack was widely reported in the German media before being confirmed by the companies, with public broadcast ARD stating that the hackers used a malware named Winnti, allowing users to remotely gain access to computers.

Reports state that analysis of the malware code deduced that the attack likely come from a state-backed Chinese group, however, according to the companies no sensitive data was lost by the hack.
