BBC shines spotlight on palm oil with short documentary

A 28-year-old make-up artist has travelled to Papua New Guinea to investigate the origin of the palm oil in the products she uses and her trip has been covered by the BBC.

Emmy Burbridge highlighted the fact that palm oil is an efficient crop, with more oil produced per hectare than common alternatives such as sunflower. Burbridge was also privy to technological developments that could make the crop more efficient still.

Palm oil is present in 70 percent of cosmetics products but just 20 percent of global palm oil supply is certified as sustainable, said the BBC. Burbridge implored consumers to demand that brands source this ingredient sustainably.
