Beach-combing: P&G develops recyclable bottle made from beach plastic for Head & Shoulders shampoo

Procter & Gamble is set to launch a new, limited edition recyclable shampoo bottle for its Head & Shoulders hair care brand, according to a report published by Packaging Business Review.

The bottle, which was developed in partnership with Terracycle and Suez, is produced from 25 percent post-consumer recycled beach plastic and will be released as a limited edition this summer, sold via French supermarket chain Carrefour.

“The Head & Shoulders recyclable shampoo bottle made with beach plastic is a world’s first in the hair care category,” Virginie Helias, P&G Global Sustainability Vice President told Packaging Business Review. “Increasing the use of recycled plastic in the packaging of our flagship brands, like Pantene and Head & Shoulders, makes it easier for consumers to choose more sustainable products, without any trade-offs.”

P&G is aiming to produce more than half a billion bottles with recycled plastic annually by 2018’s close.
