THE WHAT? Beiersdorf has pledged to make production for its Consumer business completely climate-neutral by 2030 as well as reducing CO2 emissions throughout the value chain by 30 percent by 2025, according to a report published by Nasdaq.
THE DETAILS The commitment was unveiled during the company’s AGM, which was rescheduled and held digitally due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis.
The company has also promised that 100 percent of its packaging will be fully recyclable or reusable by 2025 and will reduce its use of fossil-fuel based plastics by half compared to 2019 levels in the same time frame.
THE WHY? Perhaps somewhat counterintuitively (given that recession usually leads to a laser like focus on profit at the expense of all other initiatives), sustainability has become even bigger news in the wake of the coronavirus crisis with air pollution linked to the severity and spread of the disease.
