Nivea parent company Beiersdorf has opened a new Nivea manufacturing site based in Sanand, India in a Rs 850 crore investment.
The site will manufacture Nivea and Nivea for Men products, helping to boost the Make in India initiative launched by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The plant is said to have the annual production capacity of around 100 million units of Nivea products, with Rakshit Haragave, Managing Director of Nivea India, stating that the company is likely to expand the facility within the next three to four years.
Haragave said, “This is our contribution to ‘Make in India’ initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Nivea consumers in India and neighbouring countries can continue to get the best products.”
Stefan De Loecker, Executive Board Member, Beiersdorf AG, continued, “This manufacturing site is our very first in India, where we have our own regional development lab that is set up at the same location to focus on innovations especially for Indian consumer needs and neighbouring markets.
“The idea is to get closer to the consumers (of India) and to respond faster to market needs. We can focus on local insights with greater flexibility and develop products that are suitable for Indian skin care needs. Our aim will be to provide products of the highest quality that are aspirational yet accessible for the growing Indian middle class consumer.”
The plant covers 72,000 sq meters of land at Gujarat Industrial Development Corp, which was acquired by the company last year.
