Billie Eilish uses world tour to promote body positive message

THE WHAT? Singer Billie Eilish has used the first date of her Where Do We Go? tour to continue her advocacy for body positivity and drive home a message about acceptance.

THE DETAILS The 18-year-old singer stripped down to her bra via a pre-recorded video, broadcast on a big screen to concert goers.

During the video, she stated, “Would you like me to be smaller? Weaker? Softer? Taller? Would you like me to be quiet? Do my shoulders provoke you? Does my chest? Am I my stomach? My hips? The body I was born with, is it not what you wanted? If what I wear is comfortable, I am not a woman. If I shed the layers, I am a slut.”

She continued, “If I wear more, if I wear less, who decides what that makes me? What that means? Is my value based only on your perception? Or is your opinion of me not my responsibility?”

THE WHY? A strong advocate of body positivity and the effects of anti-body shaming, Eilish has long used her platform to speak out about the issues.

Taking to a Calvin Klein campaign last year, the singer said, “I never want the world to know everything about me. I mean, that’s why I wear big, baggy clothes. Nobody can have an opinion because they haven’t seen what’s underneath. Nobody can be like, ‘she’s slim-thick,’ ‘she’s not slim-thick,’ ‘she’s got a flat ass,’ ‘she’s got a fat ass.’ No one can say any of that because they don’t know.”
