THE WHAT? California’s beauty therapists have appealed to Governor Gavin Newsom to be allowed to conduct their business outdoors, according to a report published by ABC7 news.
THE DETAILS Beauty professionals throughout the state want al fresco treatments to be greenlighted in the same way that rules around outdoor drinking have been relaxed.
“The Administration understands and is very sympathetic to the possible economic hardships on salons. For now, the law does not allow salon services to be performed outside. However, we are actively looking at this issue and exploring options to lessen the economic harm on these businesses,” a spokesperson with the California Business, Consumer Services and Housing Agency told ABC7 News in a statement.
THE WHY? As outdoor environments are generally considered low risk in terms of the likelihood of transmitting COVID-19, sidewalk salons could prove safer, and therefore more popular, than their indoor equivalents.
