The General Manager of Strategic Planning and Monitoring for the Halal Industry Development Corporation, Syaifulzafni Aziz, has urged China and Malaysia to team up with a view to taking the halal market global, according to a report published in the Malay Mail.
Speaking at a forum in Malaysia, Aziz claimed that China’s strong agricultural industry would be the ideal partner for Malaysia, who would bring experience of the halal industry and technology to the table. The Malaysian halal industry enjoys support from the government for product testing and development and boasts 11 laboratories dedicated to analysis of halal products.
Together the countries would be ideally placed to take advantage of the gap between supply and demand which exists in all halal sub-categories – for cosmetics, the gap currently stands at approximately 82 per cent, valued at US$46 billion.
