China to crackdown on cosmetics counterfeits and misleading claims

THE WHAT? The Chinese National Medical Products Administration has announced that it is cracking down on sales of counterfeit cosmetics, according to a report published by Reuters.

THE DETAILS The regulator is planning to toughen its stance on unsubstantiated medical claims made on cosmetics packaging as well as pull unregistered products from shelves.

THE WHY? The NMPA has a duty to protect the rights and interests of the consumer and is poised to launch new regulations pertaining to labelling standards.
