THE WHAT? Clothing company Rhode NYC has filed a trademark infringement case against Hailey Bieber’s new skincare line, Rhode.
THE DETAILS According to legal documents obtained by TMZ, Rhode NYC claims the brand name is too close to its own, which it has trademarked.
The filing claims that Beiber tried to purchase the Rhode trademark from the company, which was refused and that the star’s logo looks similar to its own design.
THE WHY? Rhode NYC issued a statement about the filing, which read, “Hailey could choose and brand for her skin-care line. We have only the brand name ‘Rhode’ that we’ve built. That’s why we didn’t sell her our brand when she asked four years ago, and why we ask her now to change her skin-care line’s brand. Her using our brand is hurting our company, our employees, our customers and our partners.”
A source close to Beiber stated that the trademarks are for different kinds of businesses, with Rhode being the model’s legal middle name.
