Colgate-Palmolive reaches settlement in baby powder lawsuit

Colgate-Palmolive has reached a settlement in a recent lawsuit that linked its Cashmere Bouquet baby powder products to the development of malignant mesothelioma in the plaintiff.

Paul Garcia, 67, pledged that Colgate-Palmolive did not give adequate warning regarding the inclusion of asbestos within the product formulation, stating his diagnosed mesothelioma was due to exposure to the chemical.

Colgate Palmolive denied the allegations, with lawyers arguing in court papers that the products never contained asbestos so there was no reliable evidence to link such exposure with the plaintiff’s cancer.

No terms of the settlement were divulged.
