Working Mother Best Companies for Multicultural Women has named Colgate Palmolive, Unilever and Procter & Gamble in its 2016 list for best companies for Multicultural Women to work for.
The personal care giants are among 25 companies listed by the organization, which ‘recognizes American corporations that create and use best practices in hiring, retaining and promoting women of color to ensure that a variety of perspectives are represented at every level of management and decision-making.’
Companies were required to submit a detailed application covering both internal and external programs and activities that benefit women of color and included sections such as representation of multicultural women, hiring, attrition and promotions, recruitment, retention, and advancement programs, and company culture.
According to the findings from the Best Companies list, women make up 52 percent of the work force of the Best Companies, with multicultural women representing 21 percent of this.
17 percent of the top fifth earners were multicultural women, a massive leap from last year’s 4 percent. Meanwhile women held 28 percent of board of director’s seats, the highest percentage since the initiative’s inception eight years ago. However, multicultural women held only 6 percent of seats, down 2 percent from last year.
Colgate Palmolive, Unilever, Procter & Gamble, along with the other best companies, all offer mentoring to multicultural women, and also target mentoring specifically to serve younger multicultural women or those early in their careers.
