THE WHAT? Glossier has announced that it has laid off up to a third of its corporate work force, according to an article published by Modern Retail.
THE DETAILS Some 80 staff have been made redundant, Modern Retail reports, quoting an internal email as its source.
The technology team has suffered the biggest blow, as the beauty brand outsources maintenance for part of its platform.
THE WHY? CEO Emily Weiss told staff that the firm had ‘prioritised certain strategic projects’ over the past two years that had distracted from the ‘laser-focus’ needed to scale the beauty brand and ‘got ahead of itself on hiring’.
In a statement sent to Modern Retail, the company said, “We parted ways earlier today with more than 80 members of our team. This was a difficult but necessary decision. We’ve always been a people-powered organization, and are grateful to all of our current and former team members for their contributions to Glossier. We believe these changes leave us well-positioned as we continue to grow the brand long into the future.”
