Coty Launches Strategic Review of Consumer Beauty Amid Fragrance Integration

THE WHAT? Coty has announced a strategic review of its Consumer Beauty division while more closely integrating its Prestige and Mass Fragrance businesses to strengthen growth and profitability.

THE DETAILS Fragrance—representing 69% of Coty’s sales—will be consolidated across prestige and mass to leverage synergies in R&D, consumer insights, manufacturing, and distribution. Prestige will continue expanding in cosmetics and skincare, while Consumer Beauty will undergo a comprehensive review led by Gordon von Bretten, who has been appointed President of the division. The review will evaluate CoverGirl, Rimmel, Sally Hansen, Max Factor, and Coty’s Brazil business, exploring options including partnerships, divestitures, or spin-offs. Citi has been retained as adviser. Leadership changes include the departures of Stefano Curti and Alexis Vaganay.

THE WHY? The move highlights Coty’s intent to sharpen focus on its strongest categories—particularly fragrance—while reassessing the role and structure of its US$1.6 billion Consumer Beauty portfolio to maximize value and reinforce its balance sheet.
