Coty is set to move production for professional nail brand OPI from North Hollywood to its largest US manufacturing facility in Sanford, North Carolina, putting some 400 jobs at risk, according to a report published by Los Angeles Daily News.
OPI’s manufacturing and distribution arm has been based in North Hollywood since the company was founded in 1981. The relocation will take place over the course of the year, and 25 new positions will be created. OPI’s commercial operations will continue to reside in California.
“Our ambitions for OPI’s sustainable growth and expansion require enhanced manufacturing facilities, and our Sanford plant is a best-in-class facility that will support OPI’s growth agenda,” Coty said in a statement. “We evaluated this decision carefully and plan to assist impacted employees during this process through outplacement and career services as well as severance benefits.”
Coty is said to be planning to expand its North Carolina facility, investing US$19 million in the site over the next three years.
