Counterfeit Colgate-Palmolive products have been reported in Costa Rica, a month after replica items were seized in Panama.
A health alert has been issued in the country via the Directorate of Regulation of Products of Health Interest, with officials warning consumers of counterfeit versions of Colgate Triple Action and Double Fresh Colgate toothpaste tubes.
The health ministry has received consumer reports of products with the fraudulent lot numbers and expiration dates on, mainly in ‘Chinese’ supermarkets.
The counterfeit products were then tested and found to contain diethylene glycol – an illegal ingredient linked to fatal poisoning cases in previous false goods.
The fraudulent items have Lot L9099CT1034 expiration date 04/22 on the front of the tube and L9099GT1034 Lot expiration date 04/22 on the box.
