Craft hand sanitizer? Small distilleries switch production from gin to anti-bacterial gel

THE WHAT? Craft distilleries across the US and UK are turning their hands to the production of hand sanitizer, according to a report published by Bloomberg.

THE DETAILS Although they can’t sell the end product, due to regulations pertaining to sales of distilled spirits, they are giving it away to visitors, with some asking for a charitable donation in return, Bloomberg says.

THE WHY? With stores sold out of anti-bacterial gel, companies such as LVMH have switched to production and distilleries are also well placed to do so as the key ingredient is 60 percent proof alcohol. Given bars and pubs are closing throughout the world, it’s also probably a timely decision.
