Czech-based hemp cosmetics producers are cashing in on the growing demand for hemp-based topicals across Europe, the US and beyond, according to a report published by Leafly.
The Czech Republic is one of the few countries in Europe where regulatory controls for hemp differ to those in place for high-THC cannabis, allowing the industry for hemp-based dietary supplements and cosmetics to thrive.
“We managed to sign export agreements worth around US$3 million just in three months of 2016,” Robin Kazik, Co-Founder and Owner of topicals company Annabis told Leafly. “By this October, we should have branches in 12 different countries.” The company is hoping to export to the US later this year after securing FDA approval and is already present in 15 European countries as well as Japan, Chile and Russia.
And Annabis isn’t the only Czech firm to see worldwide sales boom. Carun Pharmacy, already present in the UK and Poland, is set to open a branch dedicated to hemp-based products in Panama City Beach later this year, with plans to expand to New York and Dallas, while Cannaderm has been selling its products online in the US for several years.
