Deep freeze: Winter Olympics presenters struggle to talk as temperatures cause cosmetics to freeze

The sub-zero temperatures at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics are causing the make-up worn by BBC presenters to freeze on their faces, according to a report published by the Daily Mail.

Olympic medallist and commentator Amy Williams took to Twitter to ask for recommendations for oil-based cosmetics.

“Our latest update from other presenters in Pyeongchang, Korea for the Winter Olympics is that water-based make-up literally is freezing on your face it’s that cold! #help #facefreeze,” she posted.

Temperatures plummeted to -23C on the second day of the Games, with a production source quoted in The Sun newspaper as saying: “Make-up artists have struggled with the extreme cold and have been frantically searching for alternative make-up solutions so the talent can still look good on camera as well as getting their words out without their teeth chattering.”
