Digital Duty Free vending machine launches at Geneva Airport

THE WHAT? Lagardère Travel Retail Switzerland has launched a fully digital Duty-Free vending machine, in partnership with Inflyter.

THE DETAILS The automated retail solution allows travellers to order, pay and collect Duty Free via a contactless transaction, with an interactive touch screen menu offering duty free goods such as fragrances, skincare, cosmetics and other products.

An integrated scanner checks boarding passes and identity cards for age verification, with the machine then dispensing the goods along with the relevant customs documentation and receipts.

The machine is located in the arrivals lounge outside the Aelia Duty Free store.

THE WHY? Aimed at complementing the opening hours of the shop, the machine is said to maximise the opportunity for final impulse purchases and improve traveler’s digital duty free shopping experience.

Pascal Le Droff, CEO at Lagardère Travel Retail Switzerland, said, “This new digital installation sees us launch our first fully automated, self-service sales channel which will optimise our operational costs while generating incremental revenue from what would be a non-viable commercial space at the airport. With international passenger numbers starting to pick up, we want to be at the forefront of digital transformation and actively explore how we can offer innovation that better services our existing duty free shoppers and reach new ones.”
