Bottles of iconic shampoo Timotei are selling for more than 10 times their RRP on eBay following Unilever’s decision to pull the plug on the brand in the UK market, according to a report published by the Daily Record.
“Due to changing consumer preferences in the UK and our decision to prioritise some of our other hair care brands, we decided to discontinue our distribution of Timotei here some time ago,” a Unilever spokesperson told The Daily Record. “We’re still manufacturing the product and it is still available in other European countries.”
The brand has not tweeted from its official UK account since 2014 and customers have been complaining of a lack of availability on UK shelves since 2010. Although the brand is still listed among Unilever’s portfolio on the Anglo-Dutch FMCG manufacturer’s UK website, the brand website it links to leads to an error message.
