Estée Lauder Companies enters cannabis skincare market with Origins mask

Estée Lauder Companies (ECL)-owned company Origins has taken a step into the booming cannabis skincare market with the launch of its new Hello, Calm mask into Sephora online this week.

Origins has become the first ELC company to enter the market with the new mask, which features non-intoxicating cannabis sativa seed oil that is derived from hemp plant seeds.

Created in collaboration with Sephora, ELC is reported to have chosen to use hemp seed as opposed to CBD oil due to research stating that the seed has better anti-inflammatory claims in relation to acne, eczema and rosacea.

Julie Van Ongevalle, Origins SVP and Global General Manager, stated that the company was ready to launch the cannabis skincare due to it becoming more mainstream.

Speaking to Glossy, Van Ongevalle stated, “We didn’t do it before because it had negative connotations, but as more people start to understand the benefits of it — even in medicine — it’s become more acceptable. We didn’t want to shock our customers.”

The mask will join other brands that sell cannabis cosmetic products from Sephora and will be available in store from 5th October.
