The EU Commission has sought scientific Opinions on the safe use of three ingredients, according to a report published by Chemical Watch.
The ingredients in question include coatings of titanium dioxide in nanoform when used as a UV-filter in dermally applied cosmetic products, tetrabromophenol blue in hair dye products and hydroxyethoxyphenyl butanone as a skin conditioning agent in cosmetic products.
The Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS) accepted the mandate on December 15, 2015 and is expected to publish its findings in June this year.
The SCCS is also expected to report on its findings on a new safe trace level for 1,4-dioxane in cosmetic products. Commentators are widely predicting the SCCS will disagree with the recommended safe level of 25 parts per million (ppm), with later phasing in of a 10ppm level.
