EU Commission supports move towards digital labelling for cosmetics

The Director of the European Commission has called for Europe’s labelling legislation to be revisited to reflect the new digital solution available to chemical companies, according to a report published by Chemical Watch.

Labelling requirements for toys, detergents and cosmetics should be simplified to reduce costs for the industry and communicate risk more effectively, Kirsi Ekroth-Manssila said at a conference in Brussels, per Chemical Watch.

Aise Director Suzanne Zanker concurred with Ekroth-Manssila, branding labels often ‘overcrowded, not easily understood and full of redundancies’. Digitalization of all but key information could provide greater clarity for consumers.
