The European Union is ushering in restrictions on the cosmetic use of peanut oil and hydrolysed wheat proteins, according to a report published by Chemical Watch.
Under an amendment to Annex III of the cosmetics regulation, peanut proteins in peanut oil, its extracts and derivatives will be subject to a maximum concentration of 0.5ppm, while the molecular weight average of the peptides in hydrolysed wheat proteins will be set at 3.5 kilodalton.
The new rules will apply to cosmetic products on the market on or after September 25, 2018, with non-compliant products banned from December 25, 2018.
