Evonik has acquired Dutch hydrogen peroxide manufacturer PeroxyChem for an undisclosed sum. The deal, which is pending approval by the competition authority, is expected to close in the last quarter of this year.

PeroxyChem’s Netherlands site will supplement Evonik’s existing production facilities in Antwerp, Belgium; Rheinfelden, Germany; and Weissenstein, Austria. With an annual global capacity of 900,000 metric tonnes, across 12 plants, Evonik is a leading supplier of hydrogen peroxide.

Hydrogen peroxide is one of the most eco-friendly and versatile of chemical products with application in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, where it is used for sterilization. Bi-products are restricted to water and oxygen, and its production therefore has minimal impact on the environment.
