Speciality chemical’s company Evonik has started construction on its second methionine complex in Singapore, which will be on a world-scale.
Created with an investment of nearly $500 billion, the plant will be capable of producing 150,000 metric tonnes of DL-methionine – with the brand name MetaMINO, per year and is expected to be operational by 2019.
Klaus Engel, the chairman of the Executive Board of Evonik Industries, in Singapore, said, “Our methionine complex, which came on-stream in late 2014 on Jurong Island, is a success story. This led to our decision to build a second plant next to it.”
Reiner Beste, chairman of the Board of Management of Evonik Nutrition & Care GmbH+, spoke about the importance of the country to the company’s growth, “Singapore has proven an ideal location for supplying our Asian customers. We are pleased to have such qualified personnel available to us in this country,”
The construction of the site will create 150 more jobs and will increase Evonik’s annual capacity of MetAMINO to a total of approximately 300,000 metric tons in Asia, and to approximately 730,000 metric tons worldwide.
