THE WHAT? A new study has emerged confirming that the active ingredients found in many sun care products can be absorbed into the bloodstream, according to a report published by Reuters, causing the US Food and Drugs Administration to consider revaluating the safety of these products.
THE DETAILS The study, which was carried out by FDA scientists and published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, reiterated the findings of a pilot study carried out last May.
As a result, the FDA is looking at ushering in further labelling requirements for the category, Reuters revealed.
THE WHY? The study in question builds on previous studies, revealing how much of each active is entering the bloodstream but further testing will be required to determine whether this poses a risk to the user.
