Chimamanda Adichie, a feminist Nigerian writer, has been named as the latest face of the Boots No7 brand.
Adichie will star in a TV campaign for the UK-based drugstore brand and has suggested that her appointment has more to do with her opinions on modern beauty marketing as opposed to her love of lipstick.
Speaking to Vogue UK, she said, “Real women are already inspired by other real women, so perhaps beauty advertising needs to get on board.”
Adichie is well-known for her views on femininity and has previously tried to distance herself from other ‘feminists’ who voice their opinions based on men. She previously stated, “I don’t think that women should relate everything they do to men. ‘Did he hurt me? Do I forgive him? Did he put a ring on my finger?’”
