THE WHAT? Finnish start-up, Montinutra has announced a partnership with personal care manufacturer Ole Hyva to bring its highly sustainable, zero-waste, closed-loop beauty ingredients to the consumer market, according to a report published by Tech EU.  

THE DETAILS Boreal Bioproducts SpruceSugar, as the patented ingredient is known, is extracted from forest waste products such as sawdust and bark and serves as a substitute for analogue chemicals and polysaccharides, promising to help smooth wrinkles, hydrate and protect the skin from the sun.

THE WHY? With bi-product beauty trending, ingredients that promise to lend their sustainability credentials to the beauty industry are increasingly sought after.
