A tagging system developed by Applied DNA Sciences could provide a much sought-after solution to palm oil traceability not to mention help in the fight against counterfeit cosmetics.
Described as an engineering ‘secret sauce’, SigNature DNA is a precision-engineered molecular tag based on plant DNA that’s highly resistant to wash-off, temperature extremes, UV radiation and abrasion.
The system has already been tried and tested, having been used to tag over 100 million pounds of cotton since its launch in 2009. It can also be used on consumer product packaging and has yet to be copied.
