THE WHAT? Frutarom has agreed to pay US$50,000 to settle a case that saw the flavors and fragrances producer charged with the illegal importation of benzaldehyde from China, according to a report published by Highland County Press.
THE DETAILS The chemical in question is regulated by the DEA as part of the Controlled Substances Act and those who bring it into the country must therefore notify the US government.
The IFF-owned ingredients supplier is said to have imported more than 800kg of the substance from China.
THE WHY? Frutarom paid the sum to resolve the government’s potential claims for civil penalties.
