THE WHAT? Galeries Lafayette has signed a lease for a third location in China, according to a report published by WWD. The new store will open its doors in 2022.
THE DETAILS The French department store’s expansion into Guiyang’s D.Place shopping mall. The city is being widely promoted as a ‘shopping paradise’ and this latest addition will cement its reputation as the Guizhou Province’s shopping capital.
THE WHY? As consumption declines in Europe, fashion’s major retailers are looking to China where the recovery has been swift. This third store will expand Galeries Lafayette’s reach beyond Beijing and Shanghai. “This third store will allow us to offer the inhabitants of Guiyang our know-how in fashion and French lifestyle,” Philippe Pedone, Director of International Development Activities at Galeries Lafayette told WWD.
