The Cosmetics Association of Ghana is asking the court to reverse a ban on cosmetics products containing hydroquinone, which was bought in by the country’s Food and Drugs Administration, according to a report published by the Daily Graphic.
The association is seeking to overturn a ban on controversial whitening ingredient hydroquinone, which came into effect in August 2016, arguing in a writ that its members have imported skin care products containing the chemical for years and that is proven to be safe at low concentrations of 2 percent of less.
“The total ban on the product has no factual, medical or scientific basis and same is, therefore, illegal,” reads the petition.
