Ghanaian Cosmetics Association given leave to appeal hydroquinone ban

Ghana’s Food and Drugs Association has been unsuccessful in its bid to topple a challenge to its hydroquinone ban at the first hurdle, according to a report published by GBC Ghana.

The regulatory body battled to have a suit filed by the Cosmetics Association of Ghana over the ban of certain bleaching creams thrown out over a procedural technicality.

However, an Accra High Court judge confirmed that there was legal precedent for a judicial review of the FDA’s decision to ban the import and sale of skin care products containing hydroquinone.

The Cosmetics Association of Ghana is seeking to reverse the ban, which it claims has ‘no factual, medical or scientific basis’.
