Shaving brand Gillette has gained praise for its latest gender inclusive #MyBestSelf campaign, according to a report by the Drum.
The new campaign follows the brand’s controversial We Believe: The Best Man Can Be campaign that came after the Me Too era, with some boycotting the Procter & Gamble-owned company for delving into feminist issues.
However, the new advert has now reinstated the Best a Man Can Get tagline, with the company stating it is justified in shouting about gender rights. The new advert features a transgender teen being taught to shave by his father for the first time.
Video star Samson states in the video, “I’m at the point in my manhood where I’m actually happy. It’s not just myself transitioning, it’s everybody around me transitioning” with the onscreen text reading, ‘Whenever, however it happens – your first shave is special.’
The film has been met with online praise, with one Twitter user stating, “As a black trans man who works in advertising, this is… Everything.” (sic).
