Going up? Chanel ushers in fifth price rise in 12 months in Korea

Chanel will up prices of certain products in all stores and duty free outlets across Korea next week, according to a report published by The Chosun ILBO.

The hike is the fifth rise in the space of a year, and will be implemented despite the improving Won. The latest 11 percent rise will affect shoes and handbags in the main; cosmetics prices were upped as recently as January.

Sources close to the company suggest the latest price rise is a cynical attempt to profit from the upcoming wedding season, per Chosun. “Raising prices five times in a year means that the company thinks Korean customers are easy to handle,” a sales assistant told Chosun. “After all, they can only do it because customers are still buying.”
