Hair raising: Google releases top 10 beauty questions for 2016

Google has released a list of the top 10 beauty searches made in 2016. The global search engine revealed that the most searched question was ‘how to do a fishtail braid’.

Indeed, hair and the latest styles dominated popular searches for the year, with the second most asked question pegged as ‘how to make hair grow faster’, the fourth ‘how to curl hair’, and the tenth, ‘what is balayage’.

The other biggest hitter (literally), was unsurprisingly, make-up, with ‘how to fill in eyebrows’ ranking ninth and ‘how to shape eyebrows’ appearing third; ‘how to apply concealer’ taking seventh place; ‘how to clean make-up brushes’ coming in sixth; and ‘how to remove gel nails’ the fifth most searched term.

Last, skin care made an appearance in eighth spot, with ‘how to get rid of bags under your eyes’.

The search terms give marketers a valuable insight into beauty trends on the ground, as well as an indication of branded and added value content that could influence purchasing decisions.
