THE WHAT? In a bid to boost is sustainability credentials, Henkel has joined The Climate Change Pledge, an international cross-industry commitment co-founded by Amazon and Global Optimism.
THE DETAILS By signing on to the pledge, Henkel has committed to achieve net-zero annual carbon emissions ten years ahead of the 2050 target set by the UN Paris Agreement. This commitment is in line with the company’s long-term target to become a climate-positive company by 2040.
Henkel is said to have worked closely with Amazon to promote sustainable innovation such as enhanced customer experience through new and sustainable packaging.
CEO Carsten Knobel stated, “Climate change is a global challenge, which requires our collective action. At Henkel, we want to make a positive contribution to protecting the climate. Based on our achievements to date and in line with our ambitions for the coming years, we are very pleased to join and support the Climate Pledge.”
THE WHY? Joining The Climate Change Pledge is the latest sustainability push by Henkel, which in the second half of 2020 has endorsed the UN treaty on plastic pollution, relaunched brands with sustainable packaging and increased renewable energy use having signed a large-scale virtual power purchase agreement relating to a wind farm in Texas.
