IFRA and Cosmetics Europe welcome support from European Parliament for CLP revision

THE WHAT? The International Fragrance Association and Cosmetics Europe have issued a statement welcoming the European Parliament’s support for the revision of the Regulation on the Classification, Labeling and Packaging of Chemical Substances and Mixtures (CLP).

THE DETAILS The changes include the classification of renewable substances of botanical origin and the grouping of substances.

The two industry bodies will continue to work with stakeholders to ensure that interlocking pieces of legislation are consistent and form a solid foundation for their respective sectors.

THE WHY? John Chave, Director General of Cosmetics Europe, explains, “The changes that Members of the European Parliament brought to the draft Regulation – specifically through specific provisions for the classification of renewable substances of botanical origin – are essential to supporting the future of the natural ingredients used in cosmetics and fragrances. These play an essential role in meeting the EU’s own ambition to boost the bio- and circular economies.”
