It has been reported that the Indian government is set to waiver any research trials for foreign cosmetics that contain ingredients already used in pharmaceutical products.
At present all imported brands must undergo trials similar to pharmaceuticals, however, in a move that is likely to boost the flow of imported brands into the country, this is set to change.
Expected to be notified by the health ministry imminently, cosmetic importers will no doubt welcome the product waiver, which will primarily help those products that offer therapeutic benefits for ailments such as anti-ageing, low hair count, and acne etc due to their ingredients already being used in pharmaceutical goods.
According the timesofindia.indiatimes.com, an official said, “Through discussions we have come to the conclusion that such cosmetics, which contain ingredients that are already in use in drugs in India, can be given a trial waiver.”
