THE WHAT? Facebook has announced its latest update for Instagram, which focuses on making business messaging more efficient through an integration with Messenger tools, according to a report by WWD.com.
THE DETAILS The new Messenger API, a development tool that allows apps to work together, will give users the opportunity to bring their Instagram messaging to other apps.
Other brands and merchants will now be able to handle messages from across the social media site, such as profile, shop and stories, integrating them across CRS systems in business apps and workflows.
Facebook shop messaging will also be brought to the Messenger API. Users are able to opt-out of the update should they wish.
Instagram messages is also getting an overhaul, with features including disappearing messages, selfie stickers, custom emojis and ways to block unwanted messages.
THE WHY? The first time the automation feature has come to Instagram, it will allow for a more concise and streamlined approach to messaging with the cross-platform strategy.
While there is no timeline for when the cross-platform messaging service will be available, CNN stated it was being, “tested in select markets and will expand globally in the coming months.”
