THE WHAT? Rihanna’s company, Roraj Trade has filed a trademark application for the term ‘Fenty Hair’ leading to speculation that the Bajan singer and figurehead of the Fenty Beauty brand is poised to launch a hair care line.
THE DETAILS The trademark application extends to shampoo, hair straightening items, hair waving preparation products, bleaching and coloring products and hair glitter, The Guardian reports. A launch date has yet to be set for the range, however, which is thought to be in the very early stages of development.
The hair care line is expected to mirror its stablemates Fenty Skin and Fenty Beauty with an inclusive approach, although The Guardian suggests that its focus will be on the Black hair care market. Here at GCN, our money would be on Rihanna sticking to her overarching ethos of products that ‘perform across all skin types and tones’ and translating that to ‘all hair types and tones’.
THE WHY? With the roaring success of both Fenty Beauty and Fenty Skin, and the Black hair care market booming in the US, a hair care line would be a natural progression for the LVMH-backed brand, which recently closed its ready-to-wear label.
